Task 1

Give a talk about travelling in Russia.

Remember to say:

• what landmarks of Russia would you like to see and why;

• what places of interest you have been to;

• what sights are important to visit in Moscow and St. Petersburg.

   

  You have to talk for 1minute. The examiner will listen until you have finished. Then she/he will ask you some questions.

Russia is the largest country in the world.

It lies both in the East and in the West, in Asia and in Europe.

I live in the western part of Russia.

So I’ve never been to Kamchatka and Siberia, but I’ve been to Moscow and St. Petersburg.

In Kamchatka I want to see the Valley of Geysers.

I’d like to go there on a helicopter tour to watch brown bears and active volcanoes.

In Siberia I want to go climbing the mountains of Altai and see clear waters of lake Baikal.  

It’s the largest and the oldest lake in the world.

The political, economical and cultural center of Russia is Moscow.

The must-see attractions of Moscow are the Kremlin, Red Square, St. Basil’s Cathedral and the Tretyakov Art Gallery.

The Kremlin is the heart of Moscow.

It’s a fortress and the residence of Russia’s government.

The second largest city after Moscow is St. Petersburg.

The must-see attractions of St. Petersburg are the Hermitage, Saint Isaac's Cathedral, Peter and Paul Fortress on Zayachy Island and Petergof.

You are a travel agent at a travel agency.  Your customer wants to buy a tour to Russia.

Before your customer makes a decision, ask him:

• where he/she would like to go

• how long  his/her trip will last

• when his/her trip will start 

You begin the conversation. The examiner will play the part of a customer.

Remember to:

• be active and polite

• ask questions and find out all the information you need

come to the conclusion what tour the customer will book
