A fragment of an English language lesson. “Learning the Poem”. (English Teacher E.P. Levina, Nizhny Novgorod, school № 55, 2010) This lesson was planned for the students of the 5th form (beginners). The main aim of the lesson is to learn the poem «The House That Jack Built», using intensive methods of memorizing. The subsidiary aims are: • To learn new words • To practice grammar structures: Objective Clause, Past Simple, Past Participle. • To develop auditory skills and speech reaction. The lesson is topically connected with studying lexis on “Animals”, “My House”, “In the country” and can be conducted as extra lesson at the end of the term. It can also be given to the students in English clubs for pleasure or preparing for a reciting competition. The students of this level are skillful enough to learn short English poems. The difficulty is to study a long one for a short period of time. The method used at the lesson can give them the opportunity to learn any unknown text easily. It is also suitable for teaching students of all levels (if an appropriate poem is taken.) The work at the lesson is based on using multimedia presentation and musical accompaniment.
