Victory Day — a holiday of a victory of the USSR over Germany in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. On May, 8th, 1945 act of unconditional surrender of Germany has been signed. On May, 9th it has been declared by the Victory Holiday in commemoration of victorious end of the Great Patriotic War.

The Great Patriotic War is considered 1941-1945 the largest armed conflict in the history of mankind. On huge front which was stretched from Black to the seas Barentseva, from both parties battled about 12 million persons, it was applied from 5 to 20 thousand tanks and self-propelled artillery installations, from 150 to 320 thousand tools and mortars, from 7 to 19 thousand planes. And concentration of such big weight of a military technology the history of wars yet did not know such huge scope of operations.

However, in spite of the fact that the holiday has been entered in 1945, since 1947 it long time actually was not marked and was the working day: for the first time it was  widely celebrated in the USSR only 20 years later.
