Mikhail Aleksandrovich Vrubel was the Russian artist of the XIX-XX centuries, actually worked in all types and genres of fine art: painting, graphics, sculpture and theater. Since 1896 he was married to a famous singer N. I. Zabiela, whose portraits he repeatedly painted… At the end of his life he became blind. The painting «Six-Winged Seraphim», Mikhail Vrubel created in 1904 with oil paints. This masterpiece is an illustration to A. S. Pushkin's "the Prophet". The Seraphim is penetrated by the cold and harsh. The face is framed by dark hair. His neck is elongated and straight. His big, piercing eyes are wide-open and his hands are raised. In one hand he has a censer with burning flame, and in the other, entwined by a snake, he holds the sword. He's like the angel of death, a reminder that nothing lasts forever in this world. His look says about the imminent touch of pay. The painting is similar to delusional dream where you can see flashes of the red, blue and green fire. Cold colors announce the imminent end. Vrubel worked on the canvas, being already sick. But he had enough strength to put the soul and the hidden meaning in to every brushstroke. It was last large canvas painted by the artist. The whole style of the paintings reminds ancient frescoes. It seems that the painting is made of parts of colorful mosaic. At the same time it's cold, repulsive and fascinating, endowed with deep feelings of the author.
