Тема: Долг клана Маквизардов.


Цель: Формировать представление о борьбе Шотландии за независимость с помощью аутентичного художественного текста в разноуровневой группе учащихся.


Задачи: формировать и развивать следующие предметные и метапредметные умения и навыки:


  1. Расширять потенциальный словарь учащихся.
  2. Пользоваться знаниями, полученными на уроках истории.
  3. Выделять главные факты и трансформировать полученную информацию для ответов на вопросы.
  4. Составлять короткие сообщения и краткий пересказ текста на основе ответов, использовать вопросы как план.
  5. Развивать языковую догадку.
  6. Сохранять учебную задачу до конца урока.
  7. Воспитывать уважение к истории народа страны изучаемого языка, чувство милосердия и сострадания, чувство патриотизма.
  8. Создавать у слабоуспевающих учеников ситуацию успеха.


Оборудование: аудиодиск, тематические картинки, листы деятельности.


Ход урока:


  1. Приветствие, Организационный момент.


Hello, dear students. I’m glad to see you at our reading class. How are you? I hope everybody is OK and we are starting.


Who is on duty today? Can you tell me what date it is today? What day of the week is it today? Who is missing? OK. Thank you. I’d like you to look at the blackboard. What do you see there? Who can tell us what we are going to talk about?


  1. Определение темы урока. ( на доске – картинки с изображением кородя Эдварда, Уильяма Уоллеса, Роберта Брюса, Коронационного Камня, сцены сражения.)


You are right. We are going on talking about Scotland and Scottish people, there fight for freedom and their national historical treasure. By the way, what is it?


OK, good of you, certainly, it is the Stone of Destiny.


Besides, we are going to discuss some questions concerning the political life of Mideval Scotland and the historical events described in the text. Do you agree? Let’s start.


  1. Проверка домашнего задания.( краткое сообщение о современной Шотландии на основе фактов из упр.1).


On the previous lesson you learnt some facts about Scotland nowadays. Who would give us this information? Let it be …Maxim (for example).


  1. Фонетическая и лексическая разминка ( на основе упр.2).


Before discussing I ‘d like you to revise some important words from the text. Listen to the disk, repeat after speaker and say the translation of the words.


5.Постановка задач разным группам учащихся на следующем этапе урока.


There are some people and events that influence the political life of Scotland in the Middle Ages. I offer you a kind of game called “Brain Storm” –« мозговой штурм».I'll ask you some questions, you are to answer them in a very short form. Clear? Some students (фамилии слабоуспевающих) will get activity sheets and will do the tasks in their copybooks. But the others are going to answer my questions. Ready, steady, go!


6.Развитие навыков аудирования, контроль понимания.


  1. When did the story happen? (in 1306)
  2. Was there peace and queit in Scotland at that time? (No, there was not.)
  3. Who was the English king at that time? (Edward the first)
  4. Why did he fight against Scotland? (He wanted to become the Scottish king.)
  5. Did he take the Stone of Destiny and carry it away? (Yes, he did.)
  6. Did the Scotts love Edward? (No, they didn’t.)
  7. Did they want Edward to be their king? (No, they didn’t.)
  8. Did they fight for their freedom? (Yes, they did.)
  9. Who was their leader in the struggle? (William Wallace)
  10. Did he want to be the Scottish king? (No, he didn’t.)
  11. Was his rebellion successful? (No, it wasn’t.)
  12. Who betrayed him? (Robert the Bruce)
  13. What was the result of the war? (Scotland lost its army and Bruce became the king of Scotland.)


So to sum the information up let’s do ex.5 and find out who is who in this story.

It's time to talk about our heroes and events from the text. Could you answer the questions after the text? Ex.4.


10.Развитие навыков устной речи через составление словесных портретов героев


Whatkindofpeoplewereourheroes? Why was William Wallace so popular among the Scotts? Why was Robert the Bruce unpopular? Will you find some words and phrases which describe William Wallace and Robert the Bruce? What can you tell about the boy?

OK, you are right. Can you guess what your homework is going to be? Yes, I want you to make up the short summery of the story or describe the main characters. You can choose the variant of your answer.

The lesson is coming to the end. Do you like our reading class? Was it interesting for you? Have you ever read any books about British history? Would you like to do it? I can recommend you to read the “Legends of Robin Hood” and “Ivenhoe” by Walter Scott.
