Тема урока: “The UK and some interesting facts about it and its political system’’.

Цель: 1) Научить учащихся строить монологические и диалогические высказывания по пройденной теме.

2) Научить учащихся рассказывать о Британии, опираясь на изученный материал.

Задачи: 1) Расширить кругозор учащихся за счет лингвострановедческого материала.

2) Развить грамматические навыки говорения.

Оборудование: компьютер, телевизор, карта, доска, раздаточный материал (карточки с заданиями и опорными выражениями).

The theme of our lesson is “The UK and some interesting facts about it and its political system.”

Today we are going to discuss the geographical position of the UK, the names of its parts, capitals and symbols.

We are talking about the Union Jack, the head of the state and its parliament.

And at the end of the lesson we’ll make up short dialogues about traveling around the UK.

Let’s first of all remember the official name of Britain.

So, you know that the UK is an island.

2)The UK is situated in the BritishIslands.

3)The two main islands are Great Britain and Ireland.

4)The UK is washed by the Atlantic Ocean in the north and the North Sea in the east.

5)The UK is separated from the continent by the English Cannel and the Strait of Dover.

6)The UK consists of 4 parts: England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

The capital of Wales is Cardiff.

The capital of Scotland is Edinburgh.

The capital of Northern Ireland is Belfast.

13) The Union Jack is the official name of The UK flag. It is made up of three crosses: the first cross is the cross of St. George – the patron saint of England; the second cross is the cross of St. Andrew - the patron saint of Scotland; the third cross is the cross of St. Patrick - the patron saint of Ireland.

The head of the state is the Queen Elizabeth II.

20) The House of Lords doesn’t have much power. It can offer and change laws and it can delay laws too.

21) The members of the House of Lords are not elected. They are aristocrats, people of church, lawyers and former politicians.

22) The House of Commons makes laws about the policy of the country, taxes and many other things.

Trafalgar Square is the most beautiful place in London. In the middle of the square stands a tall column. It’s a monument to Admiral Nelson. Four bronze lions look at the square from the monument. There are two beautiful fountains in the square. They are in front of the National Gallery.

26) The National Gallery is one of the best picture galleries of the world.

27) The Tower of London was built by William the Conqueror in the 11th century.

28) He built it because he was afraid of being killed by Londoners.

29) The Tower of London is a museum.

30) There are always 12 ravens in the Tower of London. People look after them very well as they believe that London will be rich while ravens live there.
