Ursula Kroeber Le Guin born October 21, 1929) is an American author of novels, children's books, and short stories, mainly in the genres of fantasy and science fiction. She has also written poetry and essays.
She was born, and raised in Berkeley, California.
She attended Berkeley High School. In 1901, Alfred Kroeber earned the first Ph.D. in anthropology in the United States from Columbia University.
At age 11, she submitted her first story to the magazine Astounding Science Fiction.
Le Guin worked in film and audio.
She met historian Charles Le Guin while she was a student in France. They married in 1953 and had three children. The couple has lived in Portland, Oregon since 1958.
